Gasping for breath

.......Head under water and they tell me to breath easy for awhile.........

That is exactly how I feel right now. To give you just a quick briefing. Our renters have been out of our Queen Creek home for about a month now. This last year they really struggled to make payments, even getting as much as 3 months behind on rent. We were always willing to work with them on payments, waiving late penalties and also paying their waste management bill for 5 months. I understand hard times and tried my best to be understanding and work with them through it.
I have had 100 pictures of my home taken.....that make me cry. It has taken me a long time to post because I have been so angry. To give you an idea of what I am dealing with the shower alone took 3 hours to clean. The carpet has to get replaced, every wall is covered in marker and crayon from the ground to 4 feet up, I have broken windows, missing doors. Those are just the big ones. I think that by saying there was poo left on the floor from the kids tells you enough.
The kicker is that they were in our ward, and no I am not naive enough just to think because they are members that I would rent to them. But they were one of the few families that would help us clean the church on Saturdays which is so ironic. Honestly I know that something traumatic must have happen during this last year, but the damages that have incurred must be paid for. I understand late payments but there is not an excuse for destroying my home. There is easily $8,000 worth of damage. We have come to a settlement amount they we will settle for out of court which is alot of money, but only 1/3 the cost of damages. Seriously dealing with this states away is driving me crazy. Hopefully they will chose to pay or we will see them in court.
I do have to give a shout out to our good friend Byron... Thanks for all of your help!

Oh my gosh Steph!! That is HORRIBLE!! I am SO sorry. That has got to be tough when you think you can rely on a good ward member to rent your house to and in turn end up rackin up thousands of dollars in repairs and having no respect for your home. I would be SO peeved!! I say take them to court cuz if they were late in paying rent and other things I hope you will get money to pay for repairs. I use to work in the rental/tenant business so I feel for ya girl.

So sorry to hear about your disaster. Brian and I are renting our home and reading your post made me want to drive to Tucson to look at it right now! How frustrating. I hope everything works out for you. Good luck.

i know, that really sucks. Lets just hope they move out of the ward boundaries just incase you ever come back. Some people just dont have pride. I guess since they dont own it, they dont care, but I'd take care of it just hoping that people think its my house. Oh well, you live and learn eeh?

Holy CRAP!!!! That's insane, Steph! The same thing has happened to 2 other friends of mine... and one of the renters was also in their ward before they moved as well.... I can not even imagine living like that for one thing, let alone to destory something that does not even belong to you! I am so sorry that you guys are having to deal with this. Good luck with whatever route you end up taking - life is hard and not fair all of the time, you know that? But we get stronger and learn from every situation we are put in. I will be thinking of you!!!
