Bring it on

Ok this is about the time where I start to panic. Due to the laws of nature I know my baby must come out one way or another. Everyday I feel like I can't possible get any bigger, sure enough I continue to stretch. I thought the second child would be easier in the sense of knowing what I was getting into. Something happens after you experience labor, you start forgetting all the awful details and how hard it really was. I have been so wrapped up in the excitement of having another little baby, I have forgotten. Conveinently weeks before my due date, I am recalling things I wish I didn't remember.
The Nightmares
- Getting induced because of preclampsia ( I was no where near ready = 25 hours of labor)
- Getting my blood drawn .That hurt 10 times worse than my epidural. The nurse hit a tendon in my arm while trying to draw my blood. ( While trying to get pregnant with Ethan I got my blood drawn once a week for 2 years, never did it bother me.)
- I was the guinnie pig for the new nurse to learn how to put in an I.V. ( 30min. later and on the 4th attempt I had an I.V.
- I had no nurse for 2 hours. The dr. called into the hospital that night sensing something was wrong He asked how I was progressing and who my attending nurse was. He was told they were running low on staff and I didn't have one, I can only imagine what he told that poor lady on the other line. From then on until my delivery I had 2 nurses with me.
- Finally getting an epidural. It did take the edge of. My legs where completely numb(too bad I wasn't getting leg surgery) The important parts.....not so much.
- Episiotomy time ...........I started to cry, the nurse reassured me that the baby was almost here, thinking I was just getting tired. I looked at her sobbing trying to explain that I could feel the incision. My doctor jumped up and said you can really feel that, I cried Yes! Within seconds the anesthesiologist came running into the room. Minutes later.........Heaven!

I am reading what I just typed and I have to laugh! I am still alive.... and have the cutest boy ever. All the years of wanting a little baby are definitely worth the pain. Our second baby came so easily I think I forgot the pain of trying to concieve, years of wondering if it would ever happen. All of the ups and downs with nothing to show for it.
Labor, I can handle it .....I just want another heathy baby!

Oh poor Steph! I didn't know half that stuff, you had it bad! In some ways the second pregnancy is worse because you know exactly what you are going to have to go through. We will pray you have a strong healthy boy!

Hey - I've been looking at your blog for several months now, but I don't think I ever left a message. Sorry. Just think - maybe this next delivery will be easy. No two are ever alike, and that is what I worry about :) We still are at our first pregnancy, haven't gone for #2 pregnancy. Good luck. By the way, you're right, Ethan is a very cute boy.

Atleast my epidural worked fantastically with Ella. I think every labor and delivery is different, so dont get too worked up. Jackson came in 1 hour and 13 minutes. Thats nuts especially since I had no epidural. Just make a birth plan online and you can indicate that you dont want any interns to work on you and all of your preferences like no episiotomy etc. I didnt have enough time to even give my nurse my birth plan, but it was in my bag. Aaron almost missed the 1 push for the baby to come out cause he ran to get the camera. Good luck.

I had bad things happen with Tanner and thought the same would happen with Porter. But it didn't!! He was out in a matter of hours with no epideral. Trust me you'll be just fine!! Our prayers are with you. Keep us updated!!

whatever you do-don't panic! You're right just keep looking at Ethan and remember HOW LONG it took for him to even get in that tummy of yours! You'll do fine! Let me know what you want me to do. I can come up. Carson is just excited to play with his brother..so let him come when he's ready!

Ok...after reading your post and the comments, I want to say, 1) Better luck this time, 2) you'll do great, and 3) nurses AREN'T dumb...but they are human! From a nurse's perspective, thank you for allowing that new nurse to try that IV. We all have to learn somehow and we are so grateful for those that are willing to let us try...it's not easy for you, and those new nurses are scared to death as well! So, thanks for your bravery...and a little note for the future, 2 tries per nurse is enough!! Feel free to ask for someone else after that!! I work in the ER and I start a bazillion IV's per day...there's hardly a person that I can't get. But, if I've tried twice without success, it's somebody else's turn! So, don't be afraid to stick up for yourself and tell them when you're hurting...it's the only way they'll know!! Good luck!!

I definitely think that each labor is different. Mine was worse in some ways with Robby, but it was a lot quicker. Either way... the goal is a healthy little boy!!

I love hearing other people's birthing stories! The second delivery went way better than the first for me. With Elizabeth I pushed for 2.5 hours. With Dallin I pushed for about 2 minutes. It was great! I hope everything goes well, and can't wait to see your new little boy.
